Trump Apparently ‘Unfazed’ by North Korean Missile Tests

This week President Trump appeared to downplay a North Korea short-range missile test, after a historic meeting with Kim Jung-Un in the peninsula’s demilitarized zone last month.

Despite the media hyping the story, the President seems undeterred by North Korea’s military posturing.

“They’re short-range missiles. My relationship is very good with Chairman Kim and we’ll see what happens, but they are short-range missiles,” said Trump to White House reporters. “Many people have those missiles.”

It’s not the first time this year that Trump has downplayed Pyongyang’s short-range missile tests.

Rather than take a reactionary stance which is normally the case in Washington and mainstream media, the White House seems determined to try and keep bilateral nuclear negotiations on an even keel.

President Trump told reporters on Friday that he is not at all concerned by the short-range missile tests by North Korea earlier in the week, saying they had nothing to do with the US, and that he has good ties with Kim Jong Un.

The missiles were said to have flown around 600 km. Trump was quick to emphasize how short of a range that is, and that these are “very standard missiles,” which a lot of nations have.

Trump had reacted similarly the last time North Korea fired short-range missiles, saying that they really aren’t a big deal as long as he’s concerned, nor are they targeted at the United States in any way.

“He didn’t say a warning to the United States, I can tell you that,” Trump said, saying North and South Korea “have their disputes.” North Korean state media did, in fact, say the test was a warning to South Korea over joint US military exercises.
